Flower Patch Quilt

It’s been pretty dreary here this winter, so I made this fun quilt to brighten things up until spring gets here:

The pattern is by Thimble Blossoms, and it is called Flower Patch.  The finished quilt is 14 inches square.  The tulips are appliquéd on to the background fabric and then sewn together into a block.  I never end up using the same fabric as what is shown on the pattern, but in this case, I really loved the look of the sample quilt which used Bonnie and Camille’s Vintage Picnic, so I went with it!  If you make this pattern, you really need to read and study the directions before you start, because I didn’t look at them that closely and fused all the quarter circles to the background fabric before I realized that the stems had to go on under four of them.  So I had to throw those pieces away.  Then I didn’t see that the stems had to be stitched down before you fused the quarter circles over them, but that was a lot easier to fix since I just stitched up to the circles on both sides.  Once I got through those mistakes, it went smoothly, and I have a pretty quilt to get me through to spring!
